Magna-Vises Recognized as One of Coolest Things Made in Illinois

SPRINGFIELD - At a ceremony and award presentation at the Governor's Mansion in Springfield, Ill. on Wednesday, March 29, Magna-Lock USA Magna-Vise sets, produced by Obsidian Manufacturing Industries, Inc., were recognized as one of the top-16 products made in Illinois after the conclusion of the Illinois Manufacturers' Association's fourth-annual Makers' Madness competition presented by Comcast Business.

This year, ObsidianMFG's Magna-Lock USA Magna-Vise sets were nominated into Makers' Madness and was named one of the coolest things made in Illinois.

The competition gives one nomination round in which any product made in Illinois is eligible, with all of the public voting on their favorite product. Upon the conclusion of the nomination round, the top-16 products receiving the most votes are put into a bracket, facing off against one other product per voting stage, with the winner of each round moving on until four products remain. Of those four products, the top vote getting in the final round is deemed the Coolest Thing Made in Illinois.

This year, The Rosenberg Space Habitat by Ingersoll Machine Tools was named the Coolest Thing Made in Illinois. The other three finalists were the Drug Terminator manufactured by Elastec, 17th Street Barbecue Sauces, and 77GHz Radar for Driver’s Assistance and Automated Driving made by Hella Electronics Corp.

Obsidian Manufacturing Industries, Inc.'s entry, the Magna-Lock USA Magna-Vise workholding sets, was within the top-16 products and was recognized by both the Illinois Manufacturers' Association and Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker.

Each Magna-Vise set consists of a pair of magnetically actuated clamps designed so that parts made of non-magnetic material may be located between the jaws and held firmly against the face of the magnetic chuck for machining purposes.
